Connecting the Dots – Remembering Steve Jobs

Jobs and Apple Logo

A friend of mine has been on me for maybe the last six months to read the commencement address delivered by Steve Jobs back in 2005.
Up until now I hadn’t. I was just too busy.

Steve Jobs passed away yesterday. I read his commencement speech at Stanford, less than 24 hours later.

Oh how I wish I had read it right after she told me too!
Yes, it’s that good!

Funny how the richest resources for inspiration are right underneath our noses. There are fountains of new and unheard inspirational perspectives bubbling up out of our families, close friends and colleagues.

Instead of flying to another city ($350) to spend the weekend listening to a panel of inspirational speakers ($200 and up)…all we need to do is just take the time to really listen to the people closest to us.

The text from Steve Jobs commencement address is free.  Read it!  If you’ve read it before, read it again for additional inspiration and comprehension.

Steve Jobs Commencement Address – 2005

His commencement address is humble and simple, but contains a complex depth.

  • Look backwards to connect the dots
  • Love what you do
  • Live everyday like its your last

He ended with “Stay hungry, Stay foolish” (great advice for those of us who are content and take ourselves too seriously)

Ultimately, what Mr. Job’s address taught me is as follows:

  • I need to continue learning to listen to those inspirational voices right next to me
  • After I’ve listened, I should then act accordingly.

There a phrase that’s frequently used which sums this up perfectly; “Most people know what they’re supposed to do…they just need to be reminded.”

So…
I’m reminding myself and I’m reminding you!
Stay inspired, it’s a lifestyle choice!

R.I.P. Steve Jobs…and thank you for your innovation and inspiration!

  1. Hermes Arvantis says:

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

  2. An riveting communication is worth comment. I expect that you should create much on this matter, it mightiness not be a bias message but generally group are not enough to verbalize on specified topics. To the next. Cheers like your Connecting the Dots – Remembering Steve Jobs | Inspirational Perspective.

  3. Throughout this grand scheme of things you’ll receive an A for effort and hard work. Exactly where you confused me was in all the particulars. You know, it is said, the devil is in the details… And it couldn’t be much more correct here. Having said that, permit me say to you precisely what did deliver the results. Your authoring is actually quite engaging which is probably why I am making the effort to opine. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Next, despite the fact that I can easily see the jumps in logic you make, I am not convinced of just how you appear to unite the points which in turn make the actual conclusion. For now I shall subscribe to your point but trust in the near future you actually link your dots much better.
